It is a privilege to invite you to our homepage, Korean Society of Interventional Radiology (KSIR). The objects of this homepage are to share our latest information and introduce our Society between Korean and international interventional specialists as well as people who are interested in this minimally-invasive surgical procedure.
KSIR has established on 1988 in the name of KSCVIR, and the name was changed to KSIR on 2003. The 1st APCCVIR on 1993 and 10th APCCVIR on 2010 were held successfully in Seoul. On 2005, “Korean Session” had run for CIRSE main scientific session as a plenary program, we are having extraordinary ability to organize and dedicate the international congresses.
Many pioneers in KSIR have been contributing academic development and they have been inventing something new in IR procedures. “Covered stent in esophagus” on 1991 is one of them which was the world first idea when it comes to stent with covered material.
KSIR is still growing up in academic and social activities. There are many annual and monthly society meetings and congresses to promote IR, such as below. KSIR annual congress meetings on spring and fall, Annual society meeting for practical interventional radiology (SPIR), Annual M&M Meeting at December, Annual society meeting for 3 provinces, Annual IR lecture for radiology residents, Annual IR Quiz for radiology residents, Monthly IR case conference and topic review, Monthly case meeting in 3 provinces society, and also KSIR issues Journal (KJIR), practice guidelines for IR members. We also has been actively adapting IR award for residents and medical students as events of KSIR activities. IR advertizing brochures, videos and UCCs for patients and public have also been issuing.
IR practice guidelines have been publishing, and this year interdisciplinary practice guideline for Interventional recanalization for lower extremity artery was released from our Society to take the leadership initiative.
We are running many affiliated organizations, such as IICIR (international intensive course of interventional radiology), GIRLS (Grand Interventional Radiology Live Symposium), SGI (Society of Gastrointestinal Intervention), Korean Society of Vascular Access for AVF, Korean Liver Cancer Study Group, Korean Society of Interventional Tumor Ablation, KCIO (Korean Congress of Interventional Oncology) - those meetings are opened to other specialties. That can make a partnership with IR friendly specialty and finally we can make a power.
We KSIR members are really enjoying our KSIR annual congress meeting at the spring time. It is our domestic meeting not only for IR doctors but also radiology technician and radiology nurses. Society of technician and society of nurse are joined with our KSIR Congress at the same place, but each society organizes their scientific session independently, but all of us can join for plenary session and dinner gala party. IR doctor, nurses and technicians are one team in each hospital, so we are thinking this spring annual meeting is our festival.
For the future development of IR, we need more bond and more collaborations in each AP countries, Those will stimulate each domestic IR growth. Encourage international exchange - such as joint symposium, inviting more AP doctors to their domestic congresses, developing exchange education programs for young doctors, etc KSIR has been running international fellowship program which provides financial support to Asia-Pacific interventional radiologists. So, they can be visited in Korea and participate in the educational program in here during 2-3 months. Moreover, KSIR encourages our members to take part in A-P regional society meetings as a speaker or contributor. Now, KSIR is supporting our members who want to go abroad in AP regional society meetings.
In addition, if you are having an opportunity to come to Seoul, it is one of the world’s great historical cities where the traditional and the cutting edge exist in harmony, and enables visitors to combine culture with fun. With all this, I cordially recommend you to surf and enjoy our homepage and visit Korea to join us for our International meeting and congresses.
